Ume (Prunus mume) is a Japanese fruit, related to the peach and plum, which is used to make many liqueurs and beverages. In Europe, these are usually referred to as Japanese plum wine and plum liqueur, although the fruit itself is very different from our plum.

When tasted, it initially shows a rich sweetness with hints of almond and marzipan, which is then elegantly balanced by a natural lively acidity. It is distinctly sweet and excellent as a base for cocktails.
