  Ume (Prunus mume) is a Japanese fruit, related to the peach and plum, which is used to make many liqueurs and beverages. In Europe, these are usually referred to as Japanese plum wine and plum liqueur, although the fruit itself is very different from our plum.

  When tasted, it initially shows a rich sweetness with hints of almond and marzipan, which is then elegantly balanced by a natural lively acidity. It is distinctly sweet and excellent as a base for cocktails.

  The Osaka-based company started in 1914 as a grape grower. In 1959, they began producing CHOYA Umeshu, a traditional Japanese liqueur made from ume fruit. Today, CHOYA is the largest producer of Umeshu in the world.

  Their mission is to create the finest Umeshu made from natural ingredients.
